SENIOR THESIS:
“Stripping systems down to their essence to better understanding the underlying structures and rules that govern how they work.” By Leo Villareal. This quote is the structure for the collection. It is about exploring the structure of garments. I connected Villareal’s quote with one by Albert Koestsier. “Where light is made to travel through objects rather than allowed to merely reflect” by Albert Koestsier. Koestsier is an artist who explores nature through x-rayography. I was inspired by how he challenges how light affects objects in an abstract and realistic way. Looking through an x-ray object shows the roots and structure of the object. The exploration goes beyond x-rayography in nature and explores other daily objects such as concrete. There is a process of finding a balance of nature and manmade. The idea of light and how it travels through or around objects. The exploration for this collection includes creating my own version of x-ray objects through layering transparent fabric and creating folds within fabrics.
